The Belgian trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts, born in 1975, tackles the repertoire of every era from the Baroque to contemporary music and jazz. Even before he had begun his studies with Reinhold Friedrich in Karlsruhe, he excelled at such competitions as the Concours Maurice André (1991) and the Concours Européen de Jeunes Trompettistes (1992). In 1997 he was an award-winner at the International Prague Spring Competition (1997) and won the Second Prize and the “Prix Feeling” for best performance at the Concours Maurice André. He makes guest appearances at international festivals. Besides appearing as a soloist with well-known orchestras and conductors, Jeroen Berwaerts has been principal solo trumpeter of the NDR Symphony Orchestra since 1999. Since 2008 he has been professor of trumpet at Hanover University of Music and Theatre.
