Ensemble S is a German-Dutch group founded in 1998 by Arnold Marinissen, Stephan Meier, and Peppie Wiersma, all of whom studied percussion at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. They have appeared at many European festivals and cultivate unconventional modes of performance. Since 2002 their ‘Circus S’ tent has toured Europe, playing programs of spatially conceived music. They won the Prize of the ‘Kulturregion Hannover Foundation’ (2002), the German Music Critics’ Prize for Le noir de l’étoile, and the Diapason d’or for Le Temps et l’Ecume.
