The Quartet worked in its early days with Stephan Görner of the Carmina Quartet in Zurich. The members were further supported as fellows of the European Chamber Music Academy. This fruitful collaboration with the Academy’s director Hatto Beyerle continues to this day. Recognition for the Quartet came early on with competition prizes in Geneva, Osaka, Bordeaux and Florence. In addition to their competition success, the Quartet has performed on tour throughout Europe (including Wigmore Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Tonhalle Zurich) as well as performances in Japan, India and Argentina.
Their first CD, Landscapes (Sony Classical), was awarded the ECHO KLASSIK 2012 in the category Chamber Music (20th / 21th century). In 2013 they have been given the prize for cultural promotion by the canton Zurich. The Quartet has worked with Isabel Mundry and Helmut Lachenmann and is also commited to contemporary Swiss music.
The Galatea Quartet knows no boundaries, being equally comfortable with crossover projects. This has led to collaborations with Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Tina Turner and the author Urs Faes in addition to a performance series of the Pink Floyd adaptation To the Dark Side of the Moon.
