Ralf Ludewig, the artistic director of the Tölzer Knabenchor, was born near Bad Tölz in 1967 and trained with Professor Schmidt-Gaden in the Tölzer Knabenchor from 1974 to 1981. He sang solo parts under Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt in the great opera houses and concert halls of Germany and abroad.
He then perfected his training in voice, conducting and music education in Holland and Osnabrück, playing a leading role in establishing the Bach Ensemble for Early Music in Holland. He worked at various music schools in northern Germany as a vocal coach and choral conductor, earning a degree in speech therapy in 1997.
Having won several prizes as a choral conductor and solo vocalist, he was brought back to the Tölzer Knabenchor by Professor Schmidt-Gaden in 2002. He has served as the choir’s artistic director along with its conductor since 2009.
