The baritone Christian Miedl won First Prize at Germany’s competition for young musicians ‘Jugend musiziert’ in 1999 before studying Lied and oratorio at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Wolfgang Holzmair; in 2003 he completed his studies there with honours. His voice teachers were Kjellaug Tesaker (Salzburg) and Margreet Honig (Amsterdam), as well as Abbie Furmansky and John Norris (Berlin). He has taken part in master-classes given by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Waltraud Meier and Gabriele Schnaut.
At the 2003 International Singing Competition ‘Francisco Viñas’ in Barcelona he obtained the Concert Prize. He was awarded a further prize by the Musical Life in Germany Foundation, as well as the Gold Medal of his home town Passau. Christian Miedl is currently a member of the ensemble at the Baden State Theatre Karlsruhe. Guest appearances have taken him to the Wuppertal Opera, the Theatre Bremen and the Bavarian State Opera Munich. He has also been invited to give recitals at the Swiss ‘Festival du Lied’, at the Schubertiade Vilabertrán (Spain), at the Hugo Wolf House (Slovenia) as well as at the Villa Wahnfried in Bayreuth. Christian Miedl has worked with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Kent Nagano, Dennis Russell Davies, Peter Eötvös, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Claus Peter Flor and Yoel Levi.
