Stefan Litwin was born in Mexico City in 1960 and studied in the United States and Switzerland. His international career has included concert appearances with leading orchestras and conductors, including Christoph von Dohnányi, Michael Gielen, and Marek Janowski, as well as chamber recitals inter alia with Christian Tetzlaff, Jörg Widmann, and the Minguet Quartet.
His strong commitment to contemporary music is evident in his many world premières and his work with composers of the stature of Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio, and Hans Zender. Moreover, Litwin himself is a highly productive composer. He holds professorships at the Saar University of Music and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a Fellow at the “Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin” (Institute for Advanced Study) from autumn 2003 to spring 2005.
