MARTINO TRAVERSA was self-taught from the age of seven. He then studied Piano, Composition, Jazz, Electronic Music and Information Technology. He obtained a diploma at the Accademia di Alto Perfezionamento of Pescara in piano improvisation. He attended masterclasses at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, and at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. 1981–1987 he carried out research at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR). 1987–1989 he studied with Luigi Nono.
Traversa founded and conducted the Ensemble Edgard Varèse in 1990. In 1991 he initiated “Traiettorie”, an international review of modern and contemporary music. In 2008 he founded the Fondazione Prometeo, an institution aimed at supporting and promoting cultural initiatives with the arts, music and science. He is not only active as a composer, but continues to research in the field of electronic technologies as applied to musical acoustics and spatialization techniques. He cooperates with many leading solo and ensemble performers of contemporary music.
