MANOS TSANGARIS, born in 1956 in Düsseldorf, studied Composition and New Music Theatre with Mauricio Kagel as well as Percussion with Christoph Caskel at Cologne Conservatoire; studies with Alfonso Hüppi at the Academy of Arts Düsseldorf. Since 1990 his installation and pictorial works have been regularly presented by important galleries and museums at home and abroad. Since 1986 his poems have appeared in anthologies and in single publications with the Cologne Thürmchen Verlag and the Stuttgart Radius-Verlag.
At the invitation of the Soviet Composers Federation, Tsangaris was 1991 Composer in Residence in Moscow. Scholarships and prizes: Bernd Alois Zimmermann Grant of the City of Cologne (1991); Scholarship of the Academy Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (1993/94); Art Prize (grant-in-aid prize) of the Academy of the Arts Berlin (1997). In 2002–07 Artistic Adviser of the Directorship of the Cologne Theatre; 2002 teaches transdisciplinary composition with Ny Musikk in Oslo and Stavanger, 2003 at the KlangKunstBühne (sound art stage) of the University of the Arts Berlin. 2004, 2006 and 2008, lecturer at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. Since 2009, Professor of Composition at the Carl Maria von Weber Conservatoire Dresden and member of the Academy of the Arts Berlin.
