Jan Vogler, a pupil of Josef Schwab and Heinrich Schiff, began his musical career 1984 as concertmaster of the Staatskapelle Dresden, at the age of only 20! In 1997 he gave up this position in order to concentrate completely on an international soloist career.
Among the past highlights are appearances with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Lorin Maazel. His repertoire not only includes the standard works of the cello literature, but also tango compositions and contemporary pieces, e.g. the concerto Dunkle Saiten by Jörg Widmann, who dedicated the work to him.
Among Vogler’s chamber music activities are appearances at the Moritzburg Festival, where he is Artistic Director, and concerts with Hélène Grimaud, Martin Stadtfeld and Louis Lortie. He has won many prizes, including the ECHO Classic and the European Culture Award in the section music (2006).
Since October 2008 Jan Vogler is Director of the Dresden Music Festival.
