pre-art soloists

Biography:

The organization "pre-art" was founded in 2000 by Boris Previšić and Matthias Arter - with the aim of promoting sustainable cultural exchange for young people in the countries of Southeast Europe. To this day, this always includes active help (purchasing sheet music, instrument revisions and purchases, infrastructure, etc.), which is possible thanks to the "pre-art aid" funding program, which is based on private contributions and donations.

The pre-art soloists emerged as a "by-product", so to speak, namely as a touring ensemble, which had its first appearances in 2001 in Tbilisi (Georgia). As a result, it became a flexible four to seven-strong special ensemble for contemporary music and just one year later received the ensemble award from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. The pre-art soloists received important functions as ensemble in residence at various festivals for contemporary music in Tbilisi, at the two Safien Triennials in 2004 and 2007 and as a partner ensemble at a total of seven pre-art competitions for young composers. The ensemble not only presented the results of these competitions throughout Southeast Europe, but also at various editions of the »Culturescapes« festival (Basel) or at the Days for New Music in Zurich in 2015. In 2016, the pre-art soloists received the »Werkjahr Interpretation« by the city of Zurich.

On the occasion of a highly acclaimed tour with works by Vinko Globokar, Matthias Arter and Stefan Wirth through several countries in the former Yugoslavia, the pre-art soloists performed at the Biennale Zagreb, the Sonemus Festival in Sarajevo, the Novalis Festival in Zadar and Zagreb in 2017 as well as at concerts in Kragujevac and Novi Sad.

The ensemble's first CD entitled »Processions« (pre-art music) exclusively contains works that won awards at the pre-art competitions or were commissioned by pre-art, a kind of distillate of the past ten years.
