Biography:
Semyon Bychkov was born in Saint Petersburg, where he studied with the legendary Ilya Musin. After performances with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic, his name became internationally known in the mid-1980s and he signed an exclusive recording contract. Since then, Semyon Bychkov has held the following positions: Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris (1989–98), Principal Guest Conductor of the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra (1990–94), Principal Guest Conductor of the Maggio Musicale (1992–98); Chief Conductor of the Dresden Semperoper (1998–2003) and Chief Conductor of the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne (1997–2010). In addition to concerts and recordings in Cologne, he undertook annual concert tours in the USA, Europe and the Far East with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. Semyon Bychkov is a guest conductor with the most important international orchestras and is regarded as a recognised and versatile artist with a discography of over 30 CDs and DVDs.
