Biography:
Georgina Derbez Roque, born in 1968, studied in Mexico and attended composition courses with Franco Donatoni, Theo Lovendie, Toshio Hosokawa, Klaus Huber and Chaya Chernowin. Today she teaches at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City.
She is also curator for the FONCA scholarship programme, which supports young composers in Mexico. In her own works, for which she has received numerous awards, she repeatedly explores Western musical tradition. She describes herself as a composing archaeologist.
