Biography:
Anders Eliasson, born on 3 April 1947 in Borlänge in the central Swedish province of Dalarna, learned to play the trumpet as a child and established himself as a jazz bandleader. 1966–72: Studied in Stockholm (harmony and counterpoint with Valdemar Söderholm, composition with Ingvar Lidholm and György Ligeti); 1970: first composition to remain in the catalogue of works: In medias for solo violin; 1972–73: member of the committee of the Electronic Music Studio Foundation; 1974: Christ Johnson Prize; November 1980: premiere of Canto del vagabondo under Herbert Blomstedt; 13 February 1982: world premiere of Desert Point in Växjö; November 1984: world premiere of Sinfonia da camera; February 1987: world premiere of Symphony No. 1 and Sotto il segno del sole; 31 January 1988: world premiere of Ostácoli conducted by Juha Kangas in Kokkola; 16 November 1989: Premiere of Symphony No. 3 with John-Edward Kelly (alto saxophone) in Trondheim; 1992: Nordic Council Music Prize for Symphony No. 1; November 1996: Eliasson Festival at the Stockholm Konserthus; December 1998: premiere of the oratorio Dante Anarca in Stockholm; 9 February 2002: premiere of Sinfonia per archi conducted by Juha Kangas in Kokkola; 30 June 2003: world premiere of the Saxophone Concerto with John-Edward Kelly and Juha Kangas in Vaasa; April 2006: world premiere of the Concerto for Violin, Piano and Orchestra; January 2007: world premiere of the 4th Symphony at musica viva, Munich, with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Poppen.
