Biography:
Dan Dediu, born in Brăila, Romania, in 1967, attended the Bucharest Music School from 1981 to 1985, then studied composition at the Bucharest Conservatory with Ştefan Niculescu and Dan Constantinescu until 1989. He supplemented his studies with Francis Burt at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as a scholarship holder of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg and the Alban Berg Foundation in Vienna.
In 1991, he won first prize at the George Enescu International Composition Competition; in the same year, he became assistant professor of composition and form at the Bucharest University of Music. In 1994, he was visiting professor at Queen's University Belfast and completed a course in music informatics at IRCAM in Paris.
In 1999 and 2001, he was artistic director of the Festival of Contemporary Music in Bucharest. Dan Dediu has been a member of the Romanian Composers' Union since 1990 and of the National Group of the IGNM since 1992. In 1998, he was appointed professor and in 2000 head of the composition department at the Bucharest University of Music.
