Biography:
der/gelbe/klang is dedicated to contemporary music in all its aesthetic diversity. Working closely with composers, the ensemble experiments and explores contemporary forms of expression. The ensemble was founded in 2020. Recordings for Bayerischer Rundfunk, guest performances at the IMPULS Festival for New Music Saxony-Anhalt, the Days of New Music Bamberg and the Code Modern Festival, as well as international collaborations with, among others, Collegium Novum Zurich, show that der/gelbe/klang has quickly gained an important place in the ensemble landscape. Pierre-André Valade was engaged as guest conductor in the ensemble's debut season. Several commissioned works are scheduled to premiere in 2021, including compositions by Vykintas Baltakas (Lithuania), Santa Busš (Latvia) and Ville Raasakka (Finland). Four CD projects are planned with the NEOS and KAIROS labels by 2023.
Direct contact with composers of the younger and youngest generations is fundamentally important to the ensemble. The interpretation of key works of the 20th century is also part of the musicians' self-image. In addition, cross-genre projects are developed, especially in connection with visual elements. Such an expansion of the concept of concert is essential for the new Munich ensemble – this conviction also led to the choice of the name ‘der/gelbe/klang’ (the yellow sound), after Wassily Kandinsky's ingenious concept of a holistic ‘stage composition’.
