Guitar

Biography:

Detlev Bork is praised in the international trade press as an extremely versatile and innovative guitarist. He has received various prizes and awards, including the Best Classical Musician Award.

Born in Kiel, the guitarist received piano lessons from an early age and sang in the Kiel Boys' Choir. At the age of eleven, he began playing flamenco guitar, later adding classical guitar. He went on to study classical guitar at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (Aachen department with Tadashi Sasaki) and singing with Margarete van den Eynden and Klaus-Jürgen Küper. In 1992, he received a scholarship and studied with Carlos Bonell in London for the following years. Masterclasses with José Tomás, Alberto Ponce, Luise Walker, Eduardo Fernández, Abel Carlevaro and others rounded off his guitar training. At the same time, he continued to devote himself to flamenco guitar and completed his studies with the famous flamenco guitarist Andrés Batista in Madrid, as well as with José Luis Postigo, Luis Maravilla, Félix de Utrera and others. He has accompanied well-known flamenco dancers and singers and is an honorary member of the Peña Flamenca de Merengue de Córdoba.

Since the early 1990s, Detlev Bork has been giving concerts as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and with orchestras. This was followed by concert invitations from all over Europe, Israel, the USA, Canada, Central and South America. In 1997, he made his highly successful debut in London. Concerts in Paris, Madrid, Vienna, Toronto, Los Angeles and many other cities followed. CD recordings for various labels as well as radio and television appearances in several countries testify to his busy artistic career. He was principal guitarist with the Berlin State Ballet and performs in duo with flamenco guitarist Oscar Herrero, among others. Composers such as Jorge Fernández Guerra, Jens Joneleit, Frank Wallace, Jan Lang, Jaume Torrent, Roland Chadwick, Vincent Lindsey-Clark and Siegfried Steinkogler have dedicated works to him.
