Ensemble Aventure

Biography:

Founded in Freiburg in early 1986, the Ensemble Aventure is one of the oldest and most important ensembles for new music in Europe. With its renowned Freiburg concert series, its intensive contacts with composers worldwide, numerous composition commissions, hundreds of world premieres, international concert performances, around 20 CDs and numerous publications on contemporary music, Aventure has had a decisive influence on contemporary music and brought it to a wide audience.

The ensemble's repertoire ranges from the Second Viennese School and the American avant-garde to Dada, Fluxus, conceptual art, critical composition and the Darmstadt avant-garde, as well as numerous works by younger composers. Particular emphasis is placed on the works of politically persecuted and suppressed composers, to whose rediscovery Aventure has contributed significantly, and on exploring non-European compositional worlds, especially new music in Latin America, Israel and Palestine.

The International Elisabeth Schneider Composition Competition, held three times by Aventure between 2001 and 2005, the ‘Freiburger Frühling’ festival founded in 2005 with its open workshop character, and a wide range of educational work in schools, music schools and universities, distinguish the Ensemble Aventure as a formation with a distinctive artistic and educational approach, which has also shaped the ensemble's participation in the German Federal Cultural Foundation's funding project Netzwerk Neue Musik MehrKlang Freiburg since 2008.

Awards from the European Economy, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the German Record Critics' Award attest to the high artistic quality and diverse influence of the ensemble, which is institutionally supported by the city of Freiburg and the state of Baden-Württemberg.
