Biography:
Belgian trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts, born in 1975, performs repertoire from all eras, from Baroque to contemporary music and jazz. Even before studying in Karlsruhe with Reinhold Friedrich, Jeroen Berwaerts had already made a name for himself in various competitions such as the Concours Maurice André (1991) and the Concours Européen de Jeunes Trompettistes (1992). He also won an award at the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 1997. In the same year, he received both second prize and the ‘Prix Feeling’ for the best interpretation at the Concours Maurice André. He is a guest at internationally renowned festivals. In addition to his performances as a soloist with well-known orchestras and conductors, Jeroen Berwaerts has been principal trumpet with the NDR Symphony Orchestra since 1999. Since 2008, he has been professor of trumpet at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover.
