Biography:
Marco Del Greco, winner of the Tokyo International Guitar Competition, is one of the most important guitarists of his generation. Born in Rome in 1982, he received his musical training in Carlo Carfagna's class at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he was awarded his diploma with menzione d'onore, the highest distinction. He subsequently obtained a place at the renowned University of Music and Performing Arts Basel, where he studied in Stephan Schmidt's class and obtained his concert diploma with distinction in a two-year master's programme.
Marco Del Greco has won first prize at the following international competitions: Alirio Diaz, Nicola Fago in Taranto and Città di Lodi, second prize at the Mauro Giuliani Competition in Bari and third prize at the Miami International Guitar Competition. In 2010, he won first prize at the 53rd Tokyo International Guitar Competition, one of the most important guitar competitions in the world. This recognition led to an extensive and highly successful concert tour in Japan at the end of 2011. He has performed in major concert halls around the world, including the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Bunka Kaikan, Nikkei Hall and Yamaha Hall Ginza in Tokyo, the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing, Grosser Saal Basel, Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome and Drama Theatre Kaliningrad. Marco Del Greco is a guitar lecturer at the Fausto Torrefranca Conservatory in Vibo Valentia (Italy) and artistic director of the Roma Guitar Festival.
