Biography:
Markus Elsner studied conducting with Ulrich Weder and Edwin Scholz. He gained important inspiration for his work from masterclasses with Jorma Panula. As a guest conductor at the Teatr Wielki Lodzs (Poland), the Ukrainian National Opera Lviv, the Freies Landestheater Bayern and numerous touring productions, he has built up a repertoire of more than 30 operas. Engagements as conductor of various chamber orchestras have also taken him to Austria, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Markus Elsner is deeply committed to contemporary music and has conducted numerous world and German premieres. In 2006, he founded the ensemble Zeitsprung, and since 2011 he has been artistic director of the Bamberg New Music Days. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize. In 2008, he was a scholarship holder at the International Artists' House Villa Concordia in Bamberg.
