Movement, progression, time. The interrelationship between these three essential components, which define our human existence and also nature as something in constant flux, determines my composing and is at the same time its source of power. The piano music of my early period, which seemed clearer to me than more complex large-scale genres, takes on special significance here. In each of the five earlier pieces on this CD, it opened a section of the work in which, generally speaking, questions of time—the most diverse aggregate states of time and temporal subjects—were to be brought into focus in order to artistically explore their potential for becoming music. Each beginning of such a journey into a new section of the work was conceived, felt, and reflected upon from the end, from an idea of what it should look like, how time takes shape in a formative way. Thus, the journey began with a piano piece and, in the course of the work group, often led to results that differed from what was originally felt and conceived through a creative process.
