Rüdiger Bohn

Conductor & Piano

Biography:

Born in Lübeck, Rüdiger Bohn received his artistic training at the music academies in Cologne and Düsseldorf, studying piano with Günter Ludwig and David Levine and conducting with Volker Wangenheim.

He won several international chamber music competitions (including in Florence and Bordeaux) and performed regularly as a concert soloist before devoting himself almost exclusively to conducting after masterclasses with Bernstein, Celibidache and Gardiner.

After founding the Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin in 1997, where he took on the role of musical director, contemporary music became a focal point of his work.

Rüdiger Bohn teaches as a professor of conducting at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf.
