Er studierte bei Franco Donatoni in Mailand und bei Horacio Vaggione in Paris. Fuentes komponiert instrumentelle und elektronische Musik und entwickelt neuartige Musiktheaterprojekte, die Tanz, Video und Elektronik miteinander verbinden. Seine Musik ist ein akribisch arrangiertes, kaleidoskopisches Chaos, das die Grenzen von Dynamik, Klangfarbe, Textur und Virtuosit\u00e4t auslotet. Diese Musik offenbart ein sich st\u00e4ndig ver\u00e4nderndes skulpturales Muster; man nimmt einen von konstanter Erregung erf\u00fcllten Klangraum wahr, die Suche nach einer luftigen Tonalit\u00e4t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unabh\u00e4ngig von der Form ist der Schaffensprozess eines St\u00fcckes bei ihm immer \u00bbunabgeschlossen\u00ab. Arturo Fuentes sieht seine Arbeit gern als \u00bbsich heraussch\u00e4lende Form\u00ab. Ein Zitat des Malers Paul Klee paraphrasierend, der behauptet hat, er \u00bbf\u00fchre einen Strich spazieren\u00ab, schreibt Fuentes: \u00bbIch w\u00e4hle eine Tonfolge und gehe mit ihr spazieren. Die Br\u00fcche in der Folge, die Tempowechsel, die Momente des Innehaltens usw. \u2013 das alles erzeugt eine akustische Form und einen musikalischen Kontext.\u00ab<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sein Bezug auf die Malerei ist kein Zufall. Arturo Fuentes sagt, man solle seine Musik anh\u00f6ren wie \u00bbeine Verschmelzung von Farben in einem Silo voller Korn\u00ab. Die akustische Textur und die instrumentale Synthese sind die Elemente, die mit dieser Idee von Farbe in seiner Musik korrespondieren. F\u00fcr ihn l\u00e4sst sich in seinem Werk eine andere Form der Gestaltgebung wiederentdecken: Wie in einem Gem\u00e4lde sch\u00e4len sich die Formen aus dem Gemisch der Farben heraus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doch auch wenn Arturo Fuentes die Form seiner Musik als verschlungenen Pfad sieht, bei dem er unterwegs die diskursive musikalische Linie verl\u00e4sst, um sie nach etlichen Umwegen wieder aufzunehmen, scheint es ihm doch sehr wichtig zu sein, dass ein Werk eine dramaturgische Logik besitzt; eine veritable Richtlinie, die den H\u00f6rer bei der Entdeckung einer Klangwelt leitet.
