The Swiss cellist Walter Grimmer joined the Berne Symphony Orchestra as solo cellist in 1965 and was appointed professor of cello at Berne Conservatory that same year. He taught at the Zurich University of Music until 2002, played in the Berne String Quartet for 15 years and recorded all of Mozart’s and Schubert’s trio compositions as a member of the Arion Trio. Many cello pieces owe their existence to his active involvement. He also published the musical testament of his teacher Maurice Gendron, L’Art du Violoncelle, which has been translated into several languages.
