Fazil Say

With his extraordinary pianistic and compositional skills, Fazıl Say has been touching audiences and critics alike for 25 years, which has become rare these days. Concerts with this artist are special; they are more direct, more open, more exciting. In short: they go straight to the heart.

Fazıl Say received his first piano lessons from Mithat Fenmen, a pianist who had studied with Alfred Cortot in Paris. He got his finishing touches as a classical pianist from 1987 with David Levine, first at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf and later in Berlin. In addition, Fazıl Say regularly attended the master class of Menahem Pressler. His excellent technique and command of the so-called world piano literature finally enabled him to win the Young Concert Artists International Audition competition in New York in 1994. Since then, Fazıl Say has made guest appearances in countless countries on all five continents; the French newspaper Le Figaro describes him as »a genius and the greatest artist of the 21st century«.

As a composer, Fazıl Say has received commissions from the Salzburg Festival, the WDR, the Munich Philharmonic, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the BBC and others. His compositional oeuvre includes five symphonies, two oratorios, various solo concertos and numerous piano and chamber music works.
