infotext:

NEOS is waiting for Christmas 2008 with an absolute specialty:
a rediscovered Christmas fair from the 15th century!

Rupert Huber, director of the WDR Rundfunkchor in Cologne, was looking for a program for the 2007 Christmas concert. A musician friend of his drew his attention to an old book that her father had given her. It turned out to be an early 15th-century antiphonal in Gregorian chant.

The book is parchment, handwritten and in good condition - clearly of Benedictine origin. And that's not all: it contains an almost complete collection of the hymns of the Christmas matins (Christmas liturgical hourly hymns, Christmas mass, Christmas mass) and moreover very probably comes from the Benedictine monastery of Groß Sankt Martin in Cologne, the church in which the in the book noted matins of Christmas night was then performed on December 21, 2007.

Gregorian Christmas
Gregorian Choral

(eb) Gregorian chants are once again in vogue. The recording of a Christmas Matins with the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln, conducted by Rupert Huber, is downright overwhelming.

Most of them are little-known or recently discovered melodies. And they are distributed to the voices with so much skill that the impression of tension and relaxation is created. So no meditation that you let yourself fall into, but Gregorian chant to listen to for the keen mind. Brilliant!
