Biography:
Martyn Brabbins has been Principal Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic since 2013. From 2005 to 2007, he was Artistic Director of the Cheltenham International Festival of Music, and from 1994 to 2007, he was Associate Principal Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Martyn Brabbins studied composition in London and conducting with Ilya Musin in Leningrad. In 1998, he won first prize at the Leeds Competition. He conducts all the major symphony orchestras in the UK and performs annually at the BBC Proms.
He is a sought-after conductor in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and Japan, working with orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, DSO Berlin, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Lyon and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted several times at the English National Opera, the Opéra de Lyon, the Flemish and Dutch Opera, the Frankfurt and Hamburg Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and, in 2013, at the Bavarian State Opera. His extensive discography of over 60 CDs ranges from Romantic works to contemporary music.
