Biography:

Solo concerts and recitals have taken Peter Bruns to the most prestigious music centres on every continent, including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Wigmore Hall, Tokyo and Hong Kong, the Semperoper Dresden, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, and major festivals such as Kuhmo and Bergen, the Berlin and Dresden Music Festivals, the Budapest Spring Festival and Gidon Kremer's Lockenhaus Festival.

Peter Bruns is a soloist with many major orchestras (including tours with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, the RAI Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra). He has worked with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Herbert Blomstedt, Colin Davis, Eliahu Inbal, Thierry Fischer, Christoph Prick and Bruno Weil.

The American magazine Early Music Review said of his recording of Bach's six cello suites: ‘This is one of the best recordings [...] perhaps even of the decade [...] It comes closest to Pablo Casals' recent performances.’ His numerous CDs have won many awards, including the Cannes Classical Award for Best CD of the Year. Peter Bruns plays a cello by Carlo Tononi Bolognese, Venice 1730, which formerly belonged to Pablo Casals.
