Biography:
‘Gripping, expressive, multi-layered’ (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and with a ‘communicative ensemble sound’ (neue musikzeitung), the Amaryllis Quartet (Gustav Frielinghaus – Lena Sandoz – Mareike Hefti –Yves Sandoz) regularly thrills audiences and the press alike in its concerts, making it one of the most interesting string quartets of its generation. Concert tours have taken the Amaryllis Quartet to venues including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Wiener Musikverein, the Teatro della Pergola Firenze, the Gran Teatro La Fenice di Venezia and the Dai-ichi Seimei Hall in Tokyo. It regularly performs at festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mosel Music Festival and the Lucerne Festival. The CD ‘White’ with works by Haydn and Webern, released in 2011, was awarded the ECHO KLASSIK for ‘Best Chamber Music Recording of the Year’ in 2012.
