Biografi:
Ben Johnston, født i 1926 i Macon/Georgia (USA), studerte sammen med Harry Partch, Darius Milhaud og John Cage. Fra 1951 til 1983 underviste han i komposisjon og musikkteori ved University of Illinois. Han mottok et Guggenheim-stipend, et stipend fra National Council of the Arts and the Humanities, og to oppdrag fra Smithsonian Institute. Johnston er medlem av ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) og mottok Deems Taylor Award i 2007.
