Biography:

ben johnston, born in Macon/Georgia (USA) in 1926, studied with Harry Partch, Darius Milhaud and John Cage. From 1951 to 1983 he taught composition and music theory at the University of Illinois. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a grant from the National Council of the Arts and the Humanities, and two commissions from the Smithsonian Institute. Johnston is a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and received the 2007 Deems Taylor Award.
