Biography:

In 1994 the Henschel siblings succeeded in finding the ideal cello partner in Mathias Beyer-Karlshøj. Already during the intensive years of study with Felix Andrievsky, Thorleif Thedeen, Sergiu Celibidache and the Amadeus Quartet, later with members of the Alban Berg and LaSalle quartets, the young musicians were confronted with the highest international demands. In 1995 the quartet won the international competitions in Evian , Banff and Salzburg five prizes for the best interpretations of everything from Mozart to contemporary works. The following year in Osaka he won first prize and was awarded the gold medal. Celebrated debuts in the most important music centers and an acclaimed stand-in for the Juilliard Quartet in London's Wigmore Hall, broadcast live by the BBC, paved the way to the top of the international scene: "The Henschel Quartet is without question one of the best ensembles in the world, a great one Quartet!« (Los Angeles Times).The Henschel Quartet has made guest appearances at major festivals such as the BBC Proms, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Tanglewood Festival and is also a regular guest in the renowned concert halls of New York, London, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Copenhagen, Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney. Among the CD recordings of the Henschel Quartet the recording of the Mendelssohn string quartets received the German Record Critics' Prize; the box was nominated for the 1 MIDEM Awards in Cannes and voted "CD of the Year 2006" by the International Music Web; In 2005 and 2006 it reached number 2007 in the top 1 of the Japanese HMV charts. The highly acclaimed recording of Alberto Ginastera's string quartets received a special award from the magazine ›The Gramophone‹. Also published are: Ottorino Respighis Il Tramonto with Magdalena Kožená (Deutsche Grammophon / German Record Critics' Award) and Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets op. 18/6 and op. 127 (Sony BMG / nmz topliste).
