Biography:
Ib Hausmann interprets both classical and contemporary masterpieces for clarinet. He improvises, composes and has worked with ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble musikFabrik and ensemble recherche. As a soloist, Ib Hausmann played with major orchestras, e.g. with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra in the Wiener Musikvereinssaal and the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in the Berliner Philharmonie. His important chamber music partners include Alexander Lonquich, Aleksandar Madžar, Frank Gutschmidt, Peter Bruns, the Trio di Parma, the jazz pianist Michael Wollny and string quartets such as the Hagen, Casals, Vogler, Pellegrini and Auryn Quartet.
He was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize for recording Max Reger's clarinet sonatas (with Nina Tichman) and a CD with works by Berthold Goldschmidt. In 2002, EMI released a live recording with the quintet by Sergej Prokofieff (together with Tabea Zimmermann, Julia Fischer, Lars Vogt and others). For Deutsche Grammophon he recorded the double concerto for piano and clarinet by Gerhard Frommel and the CD Terezin, Music from Theresienstadt (with Anne Sofie von Otter and Christian Gerhaher). This CD was nominated for a Grammy in 2008.
He wrote his first compositions from 1996, e.g. Oh no for clarinet solo; In 2010 he composed the music for the fairy tale the minstrel by Selma Lagerlof.
