Markus Bellheim

Piano

Biography:

At least since winning the International Messiaen Competition in Paris in 2000 Markus Bellheim attracted attention as one of the most interesting and versatile pianists of his generation. His extensive concert activities take him throughout Europe, to Asia and America. He gives concerts at important festivals and concert series (e.g. Beethoven Festival Bonn, Kasseler Musiktage, La Roque d'Anthéron, Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, Shanghai Music Spring Festival). Renowned orchestras invite Markus Bellheim to interpret works from the classical repertoire with him. He also gives concerts with established contemporary music ensembles such as Ensemble Modern and Ensemble intercontemporain.

Markus Bellheim works i.a. with the conductors Sylvain Cambreling, Jonathan Nott and Karl Anton Rickenbacher as well as with the composers Steve Reich, György Kurtág and Wolfgang Rihm. He is also a chamber music partner of well-known artists such as Ingolf Turban, Eduard Brunner, Marisol Montalvo and the Minguet Quartet. A special interest in contemporary music is just as important as an intensive study of classical and romantic works. He played the complete works for piano solo by Olivier Messiaen several times to enthusiastic audience response. He has performed all over the world with Messiaen's most important work for solo piano and orchestra, the Turangalîla Symphony.

Markus Bellheim leads a piano class at the Würzburg University of Music and has been a professor of piano at the Munich University of Music since 2011. He also regularly gives master classes in Germany and abroad.
