Biography:

Philipp Maintz was born in Aachen in 1977, where he received his first composition lessons from Michael Reudenbach in 1993. From 1997 he studied composition with Robert HP Platz at the Maastricht Conservatory, graduating in 2003 with distinction. This was followed by study visits to the Center Henri Pousseur of the Université de Liège and to IRCAM in Paris, as well as from 2003 to 2005 with Karlheinz Essl at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz.

Philipp Maintz has received numerous awards and grants, e.g. In 2005 he received the sponsorship award from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and in 2010 the scholarship from the German Academy in Rome Villa Massimo. Most recently, he was awarded a scholarship from the Free State of Bavaria for the Villa Concordia 2015/16.

Interpreters of his music include soloists such as Hansjörg Albrecht, Yulianna Avdeeva, Claudia Barainsky, Francesco Filidei, Alban Gerhardt, Otto Katzameier, Melise Mellinger, Marisol Montalvo, Nils Mönkemeyer and Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, as well as ensembles and orchestras such as the Arditti Quartet, Minguet Quartet, Ensemble Alternance, Ensemble intercontemporain, Ensemble Recherche, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Scharoun Ensemble der Berliner Philharmoniker, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbrücken, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orchester Philharmonique de Monte -Carlo, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Munich Philharmonic.
