Biography:
| Rolf Hinds career developed in different directions over a period of more than 25 years – today he is well established as a pianist, composer, CD artist, chamber musician, teacher, networker and concert promoter. In addition to concerts in Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House and concert tours to Korea, Taiwan and Cuba, his commitments as a musician have taken him to numerous important European festivals for new music. Vladimir Ashkenazy, Oliver Knussen, Simon Rattle, David Robertson and Andrew Davis and has given concerts at the BBC Proms seven times. Orchestras with which he has performed include the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Munich Philharmonic, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. There are also numerous engagements with the London Sinfonietta, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony and all other BBC orchestras. Rolf Hind's compositions include works for piano solo, a piano trio, two string quartets, a piano quintet and the piano concerto Mayan Sesha, his first orchestral work after being nominated for a British Composer's Award. Many of his compositions are inspired by his fascination with the culture, mythology, philosophy and music of India, where he often travels. At the same time, he also challenges the technical adventurousness of the performers, including his own. The list of composers who have worked with or written for Rolf Hind reads like a 'Who's Who' of contemporary music: Tan Dun, John Adams, Helmut Lachenmann , Unsuk Chin, Elliott Carter, George Benjamin and James McMillan, just to name a few.Rolf Hind was Artistic Director of the English Society for New Music (spnm) for two years. Curated concerts for the Roundhouse in London. His most recent composition is a concerto for accordion and orchestra, which he wrote for the BBC Symphony Orchestra based in London's Barbican Centre. The composer is particularly interested in New Dance. Various co-productions emerged, for example with the leading Portuguese choreographer Rui Horta or an international tour of the new work Danza Preparata, the John Cages Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano with the dancer Silvia Bertoncelli in the leading role. |
