Biography:

Vladimír Válek studied viola, trombone and conducting in Bratislava and at the Music Academy in Prague. After ten years conducting the Prague Symphony Orchestra, he became chief conductor of the RSO Prague in 1985, a position he holds to this day; since 1996 he has also conducted the Czech Philharmonic and is a guest conductor of various radio orchestras in Germany, Austria, Holland and large orchestras in Europe and the Far East.

Vladimír Válek has worked with soloists such as Igor Oistrakh, Mischa Maisky, Heinrich Schiff and Vladimir Spivakov. His extensive discography includes over 100 titles; his recording of Erwin Schulhoff's piano concertos received the 1996 Cannes Classical Award.
