Biography:

Zsolt Nagy, born in 1957 in Gyula, Hungary, began his career as a coach and conductor at the Békécsaba Municipal Theater (1976/79). At the age of 23 he began studying conducting with István Párkai at the Music Academy in Budapest (diploma in 1984). In 1988/1989 he received a grant from the Soros Foundation in Milan and Paris. During the Bartók Festival he took part in seminars by Peter Eötvös and then worked as Peter Eötvös' assistant at the Institute for New Music at the State University of Music in Karlsruhe (1990-95).

He was a guest lecturer at the International Eötvös Institute in Stuttgart (1995), in Cologne (1997) and in Edenkoben (1998, 2006). Since 1999 he has been chief conductor and artistic advisor of the Israel Contemporary Players. Nagy was Artistic Director of the Janácˇek Philharmonic Orchestra's Conducting Masterclasses and the Masterclass for Young Conductors for New Music at the Music Center in Jerusalem. Zsolt Nagy works with many important orchestras and ensembles. He has conducted more than 500 world premieres as well as numerous radio recordings and CD recordings and received a special award for the promotion of new Israeli music.
