Biography:

The two clarinetists Beate Zelinsky and David Smeyers work as since 1980 The clarinet duo together and have since performed in many European countries as well as in the USA, Canada and Japan. They have produced works from both their classical and contemporary repertoire for almost all German and various foreign radio stations. Through their collaboration with composers of the most diverse styles, around 50 clarinet duos and many other works were created that were dedicated to them and premiered by them. Adriana Hölszky, Nikolaus Brass and Atli Ingólfsson composed double concertos for her.

The two musicians have written articles on new music for both English and German-language publications, as well as the clarinet volume in the PRO MUSICA NOVA series at Breitkopf & Härtel.

David Smeyers has held the professorship »Ensemble Conductor New Music« at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln since 2003, where he directs the »ensemble 20 / 21« that he founded. Beate Zelinsky taught clarinet and chamber music at the Rostock University of Music and Theater until 2004. For their 40th anniversary in the 2020/21 season, the duo commissioned three works for two clarinettists and string quartet, which in turn will expand the repertoire for the future.
