Maja Mijatovic

harpsichord

Biography:

Maja Mijatović studied the harpsichord with Wolfgang Glüxam at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and is also a trained flutist. Further studies with Sally Sargent, Augusta Campagne and Eugène Michelangeli round off her education.

The musical language of the contemporary avant-garde and the broad repertoire of early music are two focal points of her artistic work. The inherent polarity of such different, contrasting, but also related forms of expression represents a constant source of exciting dialogues and discoveries for her.

Her openness to exploring new sounds and ways of playing the harpsichord and her claim and uncompromising striving for musical expression are the driving forces behind her close collaboration with contemporary composers, which has resulted in numerous new works, from solo to concerto.

Maja Mijatović is co-founder of the Ensemble Klingekunst (www.klingekunst.at) and played a key role in the ensemble's releases. She has also worked with the ensembles Wiener Collage, PHACE, oenm, Die Reihe and Platypus. She took part in festivals for old and new music, e.g. Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn and Prix Annelie de Man (Amsterdam). In addition to all this, it is very important to her to get children and young people enthusiastic about music. She loves sunflowers and lives in Vienna.
