Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic

Biography:

The Dutch Radio Chamber Philharmonic is a versatile orchestra covering a wide and varied field. The orchestra performs in variable formations, from the baroque ensemble to the ensemble for new music. Chief Conductor and Artistic Director is Michael Schønwandt.

First guest conductors are Philippe Herreweghe, Frans Brüggen and James MacMillan. At the special request of the orchestra, the former chief conductor Jaap van Zweden was appointed Conductor Emeritus in May 2011. The Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic is a regular guest of the De Magische Muziekfabriek educational series, as well as the International Gaudeamus Music Week and the Holland Festival.

The orchestra is renowned for its impassioned performances (often world premieres) of new music, as well as performances of both familiar and lesser-known works by the Old Masters – conducted by specialists in historical performance practice. In recent years the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic has worked with conductors such as Harry Christophers, Andrew Manze, Masaaki Suzuki, Kenneth Montgomery and John Nelson.
