Biography:

Robert HP Platz, born in Baden-Baden in 1951, conductor and composer, studied composition with Wolfgang Fortner and Karlheinz Stockhausen and conducting with Francis Travis.

Performances of his works and conducting (over 300 world premieres) have taken him throughout Europe, to Japan and the USA. He has worked with the two SWR orchestras, the DSO Berlin and the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxemburg, among others.

Platz led the Ensemble Köln, which he founded, for 20 years and worked with composers such as HosokawaHuber, Stockhausen and Xenakis. Since 1990 he has taught a composition class at the Maastricht University of Music, combined with a seminar on contemporary music performance practice. He is a member of the Bureau du Directeur of the Electronic Studio ›Centre de Recherches et Formation Musicales de Wallonie‹ (CRFMW) in Liège and is Principal Guest Conductor of the ensembles ›Alternance‹ (Paris) and ›Musica d'Insieme‹ (Milan).
