Biography:

The Polish author Zofia Posmysz, born in Kraków in 1923, was arrested by the Nazis in 1942 and taken to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, after which she was sent to the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp.

In 1945, after the Second World War, she went to Warsaw, where she completed her studies in Polish philology at Warsaw University. For many years she worked for the Polish radio.

After the broadcast of her radio play Pasażerka z kabiny 45 (Passenger from Cabin 45), Zofia Posmysz became known in Poland. A television play and a feature film by Andrzej Munk were based on this radio play. The novel version Pasażerka (The Passenger) was published in 1962.
