Albert Jan Roelofs

harpsichord

Biography:

Albert Jan Roelofs (*Heerlen, NL) studied harpsichord and organ in Amsterdam and Maastricht, among others with Gustav Leonhardt, Piet Kee and Ton Koopman. His musicological knowledge has made him a recognized specialist in keyboard music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Various CD recordings are exemplary, e.g. J.S. Bachs The Art of Fugue (2006). His playing fascinates and captivates because of his very sensitive touch, which, free of any gimmickry, looks for potential and sometimes new interpretations based on the sources.

As a sought-after harpsichordist, Albert-Jan Roelofs gives concerts a.o. with the Canadian ensemble table music conducted by Bruno Weil, with James Bowman, Michael Chance, Jaap ter Linden and Elizabeth Wallfisch. In addition to an intensive international concert career, Albert-Jan Roelofs is a regular guest at festivals for early music in Europe as well as in Azerbaijan, Australia, China, Brazil, New Zealand and the USA.
