Ensemble Adventure

Biography:

Founded in Freiburg in early 1986, that counts Ensemble Adventure one of the oldest and most important ensembles for new music in Europe. With its renowned Freiburg concert series, its intensive contacts with composers worldwide, numerous commissions, hundreds of world premieres, international concert appearances, around 20 CDs and numerous publications on the communication of new music, Aventure has had a significant influence on contemporary music creation and brought it to a broad audience.

The ensemble's repertoire ranges from the Second Viennese School and the American avant-garde to Dada, Fluxus, conceptual art, critical composing and the avant-garde of Darmstadt provenance to numerous works by younger composers. Special emphasis is placed on the works of politically persecuted and suppressed composers, to whose rediscovery Aventure made a significant contribution, and the examination of non-European compositional worlds such as, above all, new music in Latin America, Israel and Palestine.

The International Elisabeth Schneider Composition Competition held three times by Aventure from 2001 to 2005, the »Freiburger Frühling« festival founded in 2005 with its open workshop character and a wide range of mediation work in schools, music schools and universities show the Aventure ensemble as a formation with a profiled artistic and educational mediation approach from, which also characterizes the participation of the ensemble in the funding project of the Federal Cultural Foundation Network New Music Freiburg since 2008.

Prizes from the European Economy, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the German Record Critics testify to the high artistic quality and the diverse range of influence of the ensemble, which is institutionally supported by the city of Freiburg and the state of Baden-Württemberg.
