George Frideric Haas

Biography:

George Frideric Haas, born in Graz in 1953, studied composition with Gösta Neuwirth, piano with Doris Wolf and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz from 1972 to 1979. From 1981 to 1983, postgraduate studies with Friedrich Cerha took him to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He teaches as a professor at the Music Academy of the City of Basel and at the Music Academy in Graz.

Georg Friedrich Haas has been represented with his works at the most important festivals of new music since the late 1990s. At the Salzburg Festival in 1999 he attracted a great deal of attention as a composer of the ›Next Generation‹. Georg Friedrich Haas has received numerous composition prizes for his works, as well as the Grand Austrian State Prize in 2007.
