Biography:

Marcela Pavia, born in 1957, studied at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina) and did her composition exam there. She attended master classes with Dante Grela, Francisco Kropfl and Franco Donatoni, postgraduate master classes in Milan, Biella and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and seminars and master classes in composition with György Ligeti, Ennio Morricone and Henri Pousseur. She was artist-in-residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (USA) and at Studio Krone (Switzerland).

Marcela Pavia composes orchestral works and chamber music as well as multimedia and electronic works. She received national and international prizes, e.g. Trinac 2011 and the Miriam Gideon Prize (2010). Her works have been performed at important festivals (e.g. World New Music Days, 2011; New York Guitar Seminar in Mannes, 2010; Festival Gare Du Nord, Basel; International Congress of Women in Music in Arizona, 2011) and in international concert halls (e.g. Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires) by ensembles and orchestras such as I Pomeriggi Musicali, Dedalo Ensemble and CUBE Ensemble (Chicago).

She has received commissions from the Barcelona Nueva Música ensemble, I Piccoli Pomeriggi Musicali and various performers. Marcela Pavia teaches at the Conservatorio Manuel de Falla in Buenos Aires and at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina). She is co-organizer of the soundscape festival in Maccagno (Italy) and president of the Associazione Limina.
