Biography:

Mark André, born in Paris in 1964, studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (DEA on the topic »Le composible musical de l'Ars subtilior«), at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris with Claude Ballif and Gérard Grisey (Premier Prix de Composition) and with Prof. Helmut Lachenmann at the University of Music in Stuttgart (large composition exam).

He has won prizes in numerous competitions, e.g. Villa Medici competition (Prix de Rome for composition), composition competition of the city of Stuttgart, Frankfurt Opera Prize, Kranichsteiner Music Prize of the International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt, sponsorship prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, sponsorship prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts, composition prize of Christoph and Stephan Kaske Foundation, Giga-Hertz Production Prize of the ZKM and Experimentalstudio of the SWR and Orchestra Prize of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg at the Donaueschinger Musiktage.

He has been a lecturer at the International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt, the Academie d'Aix en Provence, in Royaumont, at the Takefu International Music Festival, at the EXPERIMENTALSTUDIO-Akademie matrix and at the Fellowship Seminar at Voksenåsen Oslo. In 2009 Mark Andre was appointed a member of the Academy of Arts (Music Section) in Berlin, in 2010 he became a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Arts, and in 2012/13 he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
