Biography:

MARTINO TRAVERSA began self-taught studies at the age of seven. He later studied piano, composition, jazz, electronic music and information technology with various teachers. He earned his diploma in piano improvisation at the Accademia di Alto Perfezio-namento in Pescara. He completed master classes at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. From 1981 to 1987 he had a research assignment at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR). From 1987 to 1989 he studied with Luigi Nono.

In 1990 he founded and directed the Ensemble Edgard Varèse and in 1991 he founded »Traiettorie«, an international magazine for modern and contemporary music. In 2008 he founded the Fondazione Prometeo, an institution for interdisciplinary culture in the fields of art, music and science. In addition to his work as a composer, he is engaged in research in the field of electroacoustics. Martino Traversa works with the most important contemporary music soloists and ensembles.
