Biography:
PHACE has been very successful in the contemporary music scene for many years and is one of the most innovative and diverse Austrian ensembles for contemporary music. In addition to the focus on classical contemporary chamber music, the artistic spectrum includes music theater productions and interdisciplinary projects with dance, theatre, performance, electronics, video, DJs, turntablists, installations and much more
More than 200 works have been commissioned and premiered to date. In 2010, the PHACEx started, which deals with staged "MUSIC-theatrical" spaces in which the boundaries between contemporary music, performance, electronics, sound and video (installation) become blurred. The active core of the ensemble (10 musicians) is regularly expanded with musicians and guests from a wide variety of artistic disciplines.
Since the mid-1990s, the ensemble has performed in the most important concert halls and at renowned festivals in Austria and abroad (e.g. Vienna Moden, Klangspuren Schwaz (Tyrol), Salzburg Festival, Generator, Wiener Konzerthaus, Transart Bozen, Berliner Festivals, Ultrasound Berlin, Salihara Festival Indonesia, SONEMUS Festival, Bludenzer Days of Contemporary Music). Since the 2012/2013 season, PHACE has had its own cycle in the Wiener Konzerthaus.
